Another true excitement for me is offering this original EX BBC Scotland Studer B62, complete with the original trolley and instruction manual. I found this down on the South Coast, where it had been since the early 2000s, when the owner got it from BBC Scotland when he lived up there. This is one of the coolest looking machines you’ll ever see – and is fully complete unlike many of the others offered on the market. It’s in wonderful condition, and even comes with all the connecting cables at the rear.
Service Findings
I have had this one looked at by a leading UK amp tech, and this was his findings. He loaded some tape on to it and found all the transport functions are working, as is the counter. It has two lamps to indicate that it’s on, one for 7.5 ips and one for 15; the 15 ips one is not working, but this is probably just a dead bulb. Playback is working on both channels and sounds good. Recording appears to work but only on one channel, but this may just be a bad connection. The meter also doesn’t seem to function. Headphone outputs work, headphone volume control is a bit crackly.
In summary, it powers up, transport works and it plays back well, but will require a full service if you want it perfect. He also PAT tested this ready to go. In his words, obviously being ex-BBC, it’s clearly been looked after well and maintained but just needs a little tweaking to get it perfect again.
