I found this beauty up in the North West of England, where it had been for many years untouched. I couldn’t resist, and drove up instantly to buy it. It’s an ‘A Serial’ 1970 Marshall JMP 50, with the original transformers inside (1202-118 / 784-139 / Choke). It’s a nice, original example, and has recently been serviced by a leading amplifier tech. Cosmetically it’s got a few bumps and scrapes, and some paint splatters to the top, but nothing at all significant. I love the fact it still has the model number badge to the rear – model number 1985 – which is usually missing. It was missing a Marshall badge so I added one that fits correctly into the current holes, otherwise original.
My tech replaced all the big capacitors to the top of the chassis, as the others were tired, and a matched pair of slightly vintage EL34 were needed. It has all 3x original Brimar ECC83 pre-amp valves inside. It has had one of the standby switches, and the pilot light, replaced in the past, as well as a few light components, but it’s one heck of an original amplifier. You’re grabbing a special amplifier for sure, one that hasn’t been circulated or messed about with. Grab it whilst you can – priced to sell!
