Last year I was travelling with my family through the middle of the USA when we stopped off in Mobile, Alabama for a coffee break. Next door was a little guitar shop that we had to visit! Right at the back, leant up against the wall was a rather old, stringless and bridgeless Guild guitar. It had been ‘through the mill’ but I instantly fell in love with it – I had to have it! The shop owner told me how it had been part of a deceased estate and had come in only a few days earlier in the condition I saw it in and, if I wanted it, he’d sell it as it is. I brought it back home with me to the UK and have been restoring it ever since!
Everything surprisingly worked on it when we got it apart – the pickups, the electrics. We ordered a correct bridge for it to go with the Guildsby/Bigsby (a rare original part to the usual hardtails), a partial refret up to the 13th fret, and gave it a really good clean up, and it’s come to life! The guitar itself is from 1966 and is the model T100 or ‘Slim Jim’ as they’re known nowadays. It’s got marks all over but these are genuine relic marks from many years of being a favourite guitar. The character of this is out of this world. If you know — you know! The playability is exceptional – it’s a really special guitar. I am so glad to have purchased this and restored it.
