This is the coolest, most battered, mojo filled Tweed Deluxe you’ll ever find! I found this stunner sat in the corner of a store in Florida last year, where it had been brought in from the original owner’s garage. It was truly battered and not working. I took it on as a project and have spent many hours and much energy getting it fully restored internally. It now plays and sounds awesome! This is one of the earliest Fender amplifiers you’ll find, the 5A3 circuit, dating to 1950.
Internally
It’s got a nice original period Jensen P12 speaker (reconed) that I managed to find through a great friend, to replace the original that had a perished cone (dating to 1949). I do have the original speaker still that I can include to the buyer, just let me know! The output transformer had blown, so we found the correct new replacement, as pictured, but the original mains transformer worked a treat. The original tweed is still there, in parts, though it’s very sporadic! My tech has spent many hours rebuilding the circuitboard to spec, using top quality parts, so it’s super clean now and like a boutique amp!
The original valves all worked perfectly, except one which my tech had a perfect NOS 6SC7 to fit. In use this thing sounds sublime to my ears; a lovely break-up sound indeed. The two channels sound a little different, partly due to the way they are wired up and the associated impedances – the first one is a mic input in theory. With a regular Strat, Tele etc it sounds marvellous. It’s a stupidly cool amplifier with an incredible history – don’t miss out! Please see the pictures for more information as these form part of my description.
