Vintage 1976 Gibson Firebird Bicentennial Black Ebony Guitar OHSC
Vintage 1976 Gibson Firebird Bicentennial Black Ebony Guitar OHSC
I’m chuffed to bring this beauty for sale to you. It left America in the early 1990s, and has been sat in a Leicestershire bedroom ever since then. It has been pretty much unused. The guitar has had a checkered past for sure. It has the original pickup, machine heads, bridge, tailpiece, pickguard, and case, but it has had an obvious replacement neck pickup and at one point the guitar would have had another bridge on it (most likely a Vibrola) which is why the pickup was moved and there are remnants of the Vibrola near the current tailpiece. The knobs are replacements, which I believe were done around the same time as the electrics (1987).
Like most Gibson ‘workhorses’, it’s had a headstock break at some point, but not in the usual place but instead down the line where the machine heads are. This is why the machine heads look odd and the finish beneath them is off. At the same time as this, the guitar has been touched up with black finish around the whole thing. It’s likely that when the guitar had the break, the guy who did the neck finish, also finished some dings and scrapes at the same time.
It’s an honest guitar, but finding another 1970s Gibson Firebird with this sort of character is near on impossible!
