I recently purchased this – alongside a black panel Dominator – from the daughter of the original owner in North London. I couldn’t believe my eyes seeing this one – the early MK1 Copicat with the 3x rotary selectors. This was made in circa 1959, and is serial number 191 (quite literally the 191st ever made!). This one has been re-covered back in the day, but done to a good standard and with period covering. It also comes complete with the original blue footswitch. Cosmetically in good condition throughout with a few scuffs and scrapes but nothing significant.
I have recently had this serviced by. Coopersonic at a high cost, and it now plays really well. These units were always noisy even when new, so this one has a little background noise but has that classic tape echo sound. One thing to note about these early units – the input jacks do not have grounded switch contacts so they buzz badly when no input is connected. It’s a historic piece for sure!
