Vintage 1964 Vox AC30 Treble The Butcher Guitar Amplifier Head
Vintage 1964 Vox AC30 Treble The Butcher Guitar Amplifier Head
Could this be the craziest Vox AC30 from the 1960s!? I found this beauty with the wife of the original owner – let’s call him ‘The Butcher’. It was originally an AC30 2×12 Combo, but he cut it down back in the 1970s to make it easier to transport (to be fair, what he did made complete sense!). It’s now a head version of the amplifier, with an 8ohm and a 16ohm output to the rear. The chassis itself is a late 1964 example with a grey panel, with 3x original transformers inside.
When I got it, it was missing the voltage selector and hardwired to UK voltage, so my tech put in a simple switch between 110v (USA) and 240v (UK & Europe). The 4x EL84 are 1970s replacements, the rectifier is a 1970s USA made replacement, and the pre-amp valves are a mixture of original and 1970s replacements. It’s been recently serviced to a very high standard, and it’s ready to go. This is definitely one heck of an amplifier – you’ll not be disappointed. Please check out the pictures below as these form part of the description.
